Clinical History

54 year old male with no symptoms, screening colonoscopy. Cecum polypectomy.

Clinical Discussion

More common in the proximal colon, sessile serrated polyp (SSP) is considered a precursor lesion for colorectal cancer. Histologically, it shows saw-tooth serrations of the epithelium, crypt dilation with crypt bases described as boot shaped. This case is negative for dysplasia.

Spirochetosis is seen as an incidental finding. This is shown as densely packed, basophilic, filamentous, and non-treponemal spirochetes on the surface epithelium.
