Clinical Discussion

Pneumoconiosis is a form of chronic lung damage caused by inhalation of particulate matter. The cause in this case was not known. The gross appearance of this lung could be associated with chronic exposure to cocaine use, coal, asbestosis, or silicosis. Gross images show multiple blackened fibrotic nodules with associated scarring, ranging in size between 1-2 cm throughout both the parenchyma of both lungs. Fibrosis and scarring results in ischemia and central necrotic changes.
