Clinical Discussion

Idiopathic scrotal calcinosis is a rare, benign entity seen in the scrotum, comprised of calcified nodules, and some areas show foreign body-type granulomatous reaction. The pathogenesis (and thus the name) of the disease is a topic of discussion. Some believe that calcinosis seen in this lesion is not idiopathic calcification, but rather dystrophic calcification, perhaps related to an epidermal cyst that preceded the lesion.

This entity is benign, and it is generally asymptomatic. The lesion, however, can present as an enlarging lesion, and can be quite alarming for the patient.
