Clinical History

Core needle breast biopsy of a nodule located at the 10 o'clock position, 5 cm from the nipple.

Clinical Discussion

Tubular adenoma is a benign tumour of the breast typically presenting as a well-circumscribed, solid and painless nodule in young women. There is no association with exogenous hormones or pregnancy or any reported increased risk for breast cancer. The prognosis of this benign tumour is excellent.

Tubular adenoma can be distinguished from fibroadenoma by their homogenously tightly packed tubular/acinar structure with scant intervening connective tissue. The acinar structures are lined by a double cell layer of epithelial and myoepithelial cells. Occasional microcalcifications can be found.
