Clinical Discussion

Ameloblastoma is a benign but locally aggressive neoplasm that can recur. It most commonly occurs in the posterior mandible (80%) followed by posterior maxilla (20%). There are 3 main variants: 1) classic solid/multi-cystic; 2) unicystic; 3) peripheral; based on clinical behaviour, radiographic features and histopathology.

Microscopically it is polymorphous composed of proliferating odontogenic epithelium within a mature fibrous stroma. The epithelium consists of islands of angular cells surrounded by cuboidal or columnar cells which can show palisading, reverse polarization and subnuclear vacuolization.
