Clinical History

26-year-old woman with an ovarian mass.

Clinical Discussion

Ovarian fibromas are benign tumours of sex cord-stromal origin. Most are discovered incidentally, but some are associated with Meigs syndrome (ascities, pleural effusion, ovarian fibroma). Microscopically, they are composed of uniform spindle cells in short fascicles or storiform patterns and the background stroma is usually hyalinised. Cellularity is moderate but low- and high-cellularity variants exist. Fibromas may be seen in combination with thecoma (fibrothecoma) or with minor sex cord elements.
