Clinical Discussion

Mucinous borderline tumour, also "atypical proliferative mucinous tumour" generally presents as an isolated large ovarian mass. In the absence of areas diagnostic for carcinoma, the prognosis is excellent; however, extensive sampling of the lesion (e.g., 1 to 2 sections per cm of largest tumour dimension) is needed. The tumour usually consists of multiple mucin-containing cysts lined by gastric/intestinal type columnar cells with varying degrees of tufting and stratification.
