Clinical Discussion

Polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma is a slow-growing malignant salivary gland tumor that is most commonly found in the palate. It is characterized by infiltrative growth of cytologically uniform and bland cells arranged in architecturally diverse patterns.

The section shows an underlying non-encapsulated lesion composed of neoplastic cells arranged in vague nested or glandular patterns, separated by hyalinized, slightly eosinophilic stroma, in the background of minor salivary glands and overlying mucosa. The neoplastic cells are cytologically bland with delicate, vesicular nuclear chromatin in nuclei that are monotonously round and regular. The nucleoli are inconspicuous.
