Clinical History

60-year old male with painless jaundice.

Clinical Discussion

About 2/3 of the cases of pancreatic carcinoma arise in the head of the pancreas, which can progress to result in obstructive jaundice. Ductal adenocarcinomas comprise about 85% of pancreatic malignancies. Peri-neural invasion is commonly seen. Resections often show accompanying chronic (obstructive) pancreatitis, with preservation of the islet tissue. In this case, the tumour extends into the soft tissue surrounding the uncinate process.
