Clinical History

25 year-old female with a small, papular growth with bluish colouration on the dorsum of her wrist.

Clinical Discussion

The blue nevus is a benign melanocytic neoplasm characterized by the presence of dendritic and/or fusiform melanocytes in the reticular dermis and/or subcutis. It presents clinically as a round bluish papule. The melanocytes are often very heavily pigmented and may have associated melanophages. Preferred locations are the head and neck region, buttock and dorsum of the wrist or foot. Rarely, melanomas may arise in a blue nevus.
