Clinical Discussion

Sebaceous nevus (nevus sebaceus) most frequently presents as a solitary, hairless patch, noted at birth or early childhood, usually located on the scalp. The sections are notable for increased number of mature sebaceous glands. Along with the sebaceous glands, ectopic apocrine glands are often found.

Sebaceous nevus is considered hamartomatous/non-neoplastic. However, malignant tumours can arise from these entities, the most common malignancy being basal cell carcinoma.
